Brown beef in frypan first and bake at 350 for an hour with diluted can consomme, salt and pepper. Add peeled carrots, potatoes, minced dried onion (easier than having a fresh onion) (or use can of diluted french onion soup instead of consomme and dried onion) and bake another hour. If you're afraid of losing juice in pot while baking second hour, use one can consomme and one can french onion soup. I often cheat at home and add dried beef broth with water to add more, but you won't have that ingredient. I use water and cornstarch to thicken broth for gravy.
